Insignia

Branded on my skin,
A sign of weakness

Unyielding, revolting,
betraying my best efforts,

futility's minions
on wings of silvered secrets

darkened moons of heated hatred,
burned in a circle of fire.

Blooded seals, carved into flesh,
by blades of blackened brush,

Charcoal roads, leading from my scars
to eyes, to heart, to mind unsettled.

Cold flames that bear no hope,
drive snow from heights to the softened soil

In spite of Terabithia
This cold and burned insignia.
